I am a Foreigner…In this World

1)  I speak a different language

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”   (Ephesians 4:29)

“Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”     (Proverbs 12:18)

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”  (Colossians 3:17)

“Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.”  (2 Timothy 2:16)

2)  I eat different foods

“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.’”  (John 6:35)

“…To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”  (Revelation 2:7)

“Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.  But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”  (Hebrews 5:13,14)

3)  I wear different clothes

“…clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”

(Colossians 3:12)

“…put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:24)

“…put on the full armor of God…”  (Ephesians 6:11)

“…clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ…”  (Romans 13:14)

“…clothe yourselves with humility toward one another.”  (1 Peter 5:5)

4)  I look different

“Those who look to Him are radiant…”  (Psalm 34:5)

“…you shine like stars in the universe…”  (Philippians 2:15)

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment…Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit…”  (1 Peter 3:3,4)

5)  My relationships with people are different

“…Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”  (Luke 6:27,28)

“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”  (John 13:14)

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.”  (Philippians 2:3)

“…it is necessary to submit to the authorities…”  (Romans 13:5)

6)  What I consider valuable is different

“…Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.”  (Matthew 6:19-21)

“…we do it to get a crown that will last forever.”  (1 Corinthians 9:25)

“For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.”  (1 Timothy 6:10)

“…whoever loses his life for Me will save it.”  (Luke 9:24,25)

7)  My entertainment is different

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”  (Ephesians 5:11)

“All the believers…broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God…”  (Acts 2:44-47)

“Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or course joking which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.”  (Ephesians 5:4)

8)  My personal space is different

“…among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity…because these are improper for God’s holy people.”  (Ephesians 5:3)

“Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?…He who has clean hands and a pure heart…”   (Psalm 24:4)

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.”  (Psalm 1:1)

“…Bad company corrupts good character.”  (1Corinthians 15:33)

9)  My work habits are different

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”  (Colossians 3:23,24)

“…whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave–just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”  (Matthew 20:26-28)

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”  (2 Timothy 2:15)

10) My view of God is different

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.’”  (John 14:6)

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.”  (Deuteronomy 7:9)

“But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God, the eternal King.”  (Jeremiah 10:10)

“…Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty.  Just and true are your ways, King of the ages…For you alone are holy…” (Revelation 15:3,4)
